ASR series antennas have a built-in PAD type preamplifier. A replacement is only required if the original is damaged. The PAD-820 preamplifier is intended for use only with ASR antennas. The device is powered via the coaxial cable from the output side. Due to the wide range of acceptable supply voltages (5-12V), this amplifier can be powered: directly from a tuner or television (the above devices must be able to output 5V DC), or via an external power separator (with power supply) type ZZA-7.
