Huawei SCUN is a Super Control Unit. It is the core of system control and service switching and aggregation. SCUN can also function as the management and control core of an integrated network management system (NMS). It communicates with service tables for key management and control information via the Master/Slave serial port and GE/10GE inband channel. In this way the SCUN card configures, manages and controls the device and implements simple route protocol functions.

Basic principle of Huawei SCUN

• The control module manages the entire board and service panels and communicates with the fan tray via an extended serial port.
  
  
• The power supply module provides power to the other functional modules of the card.
  
  
• The clock module provides clock signals to other functional modules of the card.
  
  
• The switching module provides a GE and 10GE port for switching and aggregating services in layer 2 or 3.
  
  
• Provides four GE ports for data transfer using the front panel ports.
  
  
• Two GE/10GE ports are available for each transmitting board in transmission
  
  
• Provision of 16 GE/10GE ports to implement GE/10GE switching on each service board
  
  
• Two 10GE ports are available to share loads with the control card in standby mode (supported on V800R011C00 and later versions)
